From helping families access nutritious food and stable housing to expanding educational opportunities and workforce training, local nonprofits make a meaningful difference in their communities every day. The PPL Foundation recently awarded $500,000 in Empowering Communities grants to 57 nonprofit organizations throughout PPL Electric Utilities’ service area to support this essential work. These grants reflect the foundation’s commitment to powering a brighter future by supporting programs that strengthen neighborhoods, create opportunity and improve quality of life for residents across Pennsylvania.
Many of these grants will help address some of the most pressing needs facing local communities. Funding will support organizations that provide access to fresh and nutritious food, safe and stable housing, and essential services for individuals and families.
Grants also will help expand workforce development and small business initiatives that help equip people with valuable skills, connect them with employment opportunities and support long-term financial stability. In addition, grants will support hands-on STEM learning, literacy and after-school programs, youth leadership opportunities and summer enrichment experiences that keep students engaged and prepared for the future. Other initiatives will promote environmental stewardship, community wellness and revitalization and access to arts and cultural experiences that bring people together.
“At the heart of every strong community are people who care deeply about their neighbors and are working to make things better,” said Lissette Santana, president of the PPL Foundation. “These grants support that work – helping more families put food on the table, creating safe places to live and learn, and opening doors to new possibilities. We’re proud to partner with organizations that are making a real, lasting difference in the communities we serve.”
