The PPL Foundation empowers communities by supporting student success from cradle to career; advancing diversity, equity and inclusion; and promoting the development of vibrant and sustainable communities.
Delivering safe, reliable and affordable power to our customers is our primary role, but we know there are other ways to empower a community. Supporting innovative education programs, helping to revitalize neighborhoods and fostering the development of the future workforce are ways PPL helps to strengthen the communities it serves.
PPL goes beyond its core business by focusing its energy on being a good neighbor through a long-standing commitment to corporate citizenship. Our commitment to the environment, philanthropic contributions and the dedicated volunteerism of our employees allow us to improve the communities in which we live, work and serve.
PPL Foundation Focus Areas
As a keystone in each of the communities we serve, the PPL Foundation contributes millions of dollars annually, partnering with nonprofit organizations working in the following areas.
Building a strong foundation is critical to the success of today’s students. Contributions in this area will support equitable and engaging high-quality educational opportunities for all students, with a particular emphasis on those in need. Programs supported through grants include, but are not limited to – early childhood education; science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs; literacy; summer learning; and career and college preparatory programs.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
PPL Foundation seeks to support communities where all are respected, valued and free to reach their full potential in life. Toward that end, the Foundation seeks to fund programs aimed at confronting racism and discrimination, advancing social justice and equity, improving multi-cultural relations and supporting minority-led organizations leading change in the communities we serve.
A strong community is one in which all residents are empowered to fulfill their potential. Improving the lives and well-being of residents in central and eastern Pennsylvania by fostering the development of safe, strong and sustainable communities is a primary objective of the PPL Foundation. Funding priorities include support for emergency and disaster preparedness, environmental conservation initiatives and neighborhood improvement programs.
PPL Foundation Grants
These capacity-building grants support nonprofit organizations working to improve the lives and well-being of residents by improving education; addressing diversity, equity and inclusion; and fostering the development of safe, strong and sustainable communities. Since funding was distributed to COVID-19 relief efforts throughout Pennsylvania in March 2020 because of overwhelming community needs, no major grant applications will be accepted this year.
Through these competitive grants, teachers can receive $1,000 in funding for educational projects such as science fairs, energy conservation projects, renewable energy demonstrations, math competitions and more. Applications will be accepted August through September 30.
Other Funding Opportunities
Education Improvement Tax Credits
Pennsylvania’s EITC program allows PPL to invest in projects that improve access for high quality Pre-K and enhance education programs. Organizations must be pre-qualified by the state to participate. Applications are accepted annually from June 1 to July 15.
Through its sponsorship program, PPL supports community revitalization efforts, which includes programs focused on education, arts, culture, disaster relief, health and safety. Applications are accepted year-round.
