Melissa Fillman founded Kindness is Magic, a Lehigh Valley organization that improves the education outcomes of public-school students by advocating for all students to be provided a nutritious lunch regardless of their economic status.
At Kindness is Magic Inc., they believe every child – regardless of family background or economic status – should have access to a warm, nutritious meal during the school day. They are committed to taking action to raise necessary funds to pay off student debt in our community. The organization has inspired school communities to have conversations about food insecurity and make changes to better support students.
“I am overwhelmed by the generosity that PPL has shown our charity Kindness is Magic. Sadly, one in every six children in our community suffers from food insecurity. At Kindness is Magic, we believe all children deserve to be provided with a warm and nutritious meal at school regardless of their ability to pay for it,” Fillman said. “We will continue to work to pay down student lunch debt in our community schools. This grant money will be passed right along to the district that has the highest amount of student lunch debt in our area.
“We are extremely grateful to PPL for recognizing this need in our community and for reaching out to our struggling children and families with a desire to help,” she said.
