Programs and Workshops
Susquehanna Riverlands conducts an extensive environmental education program that includes public programs, field trips and teacher workshops.
Environmental programs are offered to the public year-round. Subjects may include birds, wildflowers, wetlands and watersheds, historical subjects, endangered species and hunter education. Upcoming programs are listed in PPL's online Calendar of Events and publicized via a free quarterly e-mail. To receive the quarterly listing of events, send an e-mail to pplpreserves@pplweb.com and list "Subscribe Susquehanna" in the subject line.
Schools have a special place at the Riverlands. Field trips can be arranged by calling 1-866-832-3312. These field trips can be combined with an energy program at the Susquehanna Energy Information Center. Since 1989, the award-winning "Teaching Environmental Awareness" (TEA) workshops have been offered annually to provide educators with the information and expertise they need to give their students a better understanding of the environment. Workshops on other subjects are offered throughout the year.
Today, with all of the energy choices and options facing us, it is more important than ever that students and teachers are accurately informed about energy needs, energy realities, energy alternatives, energy conservation and energy-producing industries. The more knowledgeable educators and their students are, the better they will be able to deal with how society views vital energy issues. PPL seeks to be a primary source of accurate information about energy issues. PPL's Education Relations staff deals in many other educational efforts including a high school debating competition, the "Let's Get Real" program, school-to-career opportunities and a newly developed hydropower curriculum.
PPL understands the critical role quality education plays in society. It is a solid foundation for our children and one of the keys to the future success and economic growth of our country.
