PPL Wallingford Energy is a simple-cycle plant on the site of the town of Wallingford’s former municipal power plant in Connecticut. The project was the result of an initiative by the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative to develop new power generation at existing power plant sites.

The power plant gives PPL the ability to sell electricity into the rapidly growing New England power pool. The New England power pool is a six-state wholesale power-marketing region that provides electricity to more than 6.2 million customers in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The five simple-cycle turbines are designed to start rapidly and operate during periods of high demand. They use natural gas to minimize air emissions.

Located about 20 miles south of Hartford and 10 miles north of New Haven, the facility's upgraded transmission interconnections and location near load centers will bolster system reliability.

PPL Wallingford Energy LLC, a subsidiary of PPL Generation LLC, owns the plant, which employs three people.
