PPL University Park is a 540-megawatt, natural gas-fired, simple-cycle power plant located in an industrial park in University Park, Ill., south of Chicago.
The facility uses 12 General Electric LM6000 turbines to produce power and is equipped with state-of-the-art emissions reduction equipment.
The plant, which began commercial operations in July 2002, serves the growing electricity needs of the Chicago metropolitan area by operating during times of intermediate and high demand.
PPL University Park LLC, a subsidiary of PPL Generation LLC, owns the plant, which employs about five people.
