PPL Martins Creek LLC, a subsidiary of PPL Generation LLC, owns a fleet of 23 combustion turbines on nine sites throughout central and eastern Pennsylvania. They are operated remotely from Allentown, Pa.

The turbines burn distillate oils but also can be converted to burn natural gas.

Combustion turbine generators provide peaking power capacity to respond to relatively rapid changes in demand for electricity. They also provide emergency power during high load demands.
