Learn to stay safe in the woods at PPL’s Lake Wallenpaupack
Take a walk in the woods with John Jose from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, and participate in some survival activities along the way. This is a great program for children ages 3-12 and will cover the basics of how to avoid getting lost in the woods and what to do if you become lost.
Jose, of Otter Creek Environmental Education Services, will incorporate concepts of the “Hug a Tree and Survive” program and close with participants cooperatively constructing a simple survival shelter.

The Wallenpaupack hydroelectric plant in the Pocono Mountains includes a dam with a reservoir and a powerhouse that contains two units with a total capacity of 44 megawatts.
Located on the border of Wayne and Pike counties on Lake Wallenpaupack near Hawley, Pa., the plant began commercial operation in 1926.
The plant is owned by PPL Holtwood LLC, a subsidiary of PPL Generation LLC. It is operated remotely
from a control center 85 miles away in Allentown, Pa.
The dam is 1,275 feet long and 70 feet high. When PPL built the plant, it created the 5,700-acre Lake Wallenpaupack, which has become a popular, year-round recreation area. Water from the lake travels to the power plant through a 3½-mile pipeline that is more than 14 feet in diameter.
