PPL’s Renewable Energy Portfolio
PPL Corporation develops, owns and operates a varied and growing portfolio of renewable energy projects. Over the next five years, PPL will invest at least $600 million in new renewable energy projects, including projects at its hydroelectric facilities.
Since 2002, PPL has been developing, building and operating solar, methane gas-to-energy, fuel cell and cogeneration renewable energy facilities throughout the mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The company currently operates and is developing a total of 65 megawatts of capacity of this type of renewable energy project.
In addition, PPL has about 940 megawatts of generating capacity in hydroelectric power plants in Maine, Montana and Pennsylvania. The company is adding new hydroelectric capacity in Montana and Pennsylvania totaling about 160 megawatts.
Also, PPL has made a 20-year commitment to buy the electricity generated at two wind farms in Pennsylvania and has agreed to buy half of the renewable energy credits produced by a new wind farm in West Virginia. The three projects total 132 megawatts of renewable energy.
