Reaching Neighbors

Our Community

PPL is committed to responding to the concerns of our neighbors. As a part of your community, we strive to do more than just deliver power to our neighboring communities. We try hard to resolve neighborhood concerns about our power plants, and to deliver high-quality educational and community programs. We do these things because we know that we must continually earn our right to operate in your neighborhood.

PPL's Plant Advisory Committee

Since the plant was built, PPL's Martins Creek Plant Advisory Committee has provided valuable input about how our plant impacts the community. Today, the Plant Advisory Committee is made up of a diverse group of people from Pennsylvania and New Jersey who meet monthly to discuss plant operational issues, future plans and new ideas for community-based programs. The committee is covering issues and challenges facing both the Martins Creek plant and the nearby Lower Mount Bethel Energy facility.

Responding to Air Quality Concerns

Some plant neighbors on both sides of the Delaware River are concerned about our industry's impacts on regional air quality. In response, PPL is working with Roche Vitamins and the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Departments of Environmental Protection to develop an air monitoring program in Warren County, N.J. We were not forced to do this. We committed $100,000 to an air monitoring station because we believe neighborhood concerns about air quality need to be resolved. The data we collect will build on six years of air quality data that PPL collected in Harmony Township during the 1990s.

PPL also takes part in the Regional Airshed Citizens Advisory Panel to tackle air quality issues related to the combination of industries in Northampton County, Pa., and Warren County, N.J. This advisory group is made up of stakeholders from industry, municipal and county agencies, state and federal environmental regulators, and communities in both counties.

Building Better Neighborhood Partnerships

PPL has worked hard to establish a good relationship with local communities in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. We meet with public officials, environmental commissions and groups of concerned residents to discuss the issues, share perspectives and come up with ways that we can work together.
