The Conemaugh plant is located along Route 711 and the Conemaugh River about 13 miles northwest of Johnstown, Pa.

The facility consists of two coal-fired, steam-electric generation units — which began commercial operation in 1970 and 1971 — and four diesel-fired combustion turbine generators rated at 2.75 megawatts each. The plant also has four cooling towers.

Scrubbers on both units help reduce the sulfur dioxide emissions from the plant.

There are eight co-owners of Conemaugh. PPL Montour LLC, a subsidiary of PPL Generation LLC, has a 16.25 percent undivided interest in the facility representing 278 megawatts. An affiliate of Reliant Energy is the operator.

The plant employs about 200 people.
