Situation: Despite snow, ice, wind and cold, PPL Electric Utilities crews have safely restored power to more than 136,851 customers affected by Sunday's storm.
Storm cleanup operations have been completed throughout most of the company's 29-county service territory in eastern and central Pennsylvania.
PPL Electric Utilities crews and hundreds of additional workers have converged on the Harrisburg region and western Berks County to aid in the mammoth restoration effort there.
PPL Electric Utilities appreciates the help of utility crews from as far away as South Carolina and New England. These crews have arrived in Harrisburg to help restore power to customers.
Customers Restored: 136,851 as of 8 p.m.
Customers Without Power: 3,013 as of 8 p.m.
Affected Areas: The Harrisburg region was the hardest hit area. About 700 linemen were working in the Harrisburg region today.
We have 2,808 customers without power in the Harrisburg area and Berks County. We expect to have everyone back in service by 6 p.m. Wednesday (12/19) in Harrisburg and tonight in Berks County.
PPL Electric Utilities is contacting customers who have been without electricity for an extended period of time, and is providing ice and water for those who need it.
Cause of Outages: With the heavy buildup of ice and snow, tree limbs fall into power lines, causing them to break and short circuit. Customers should stay away from any downed power lines, treat them as if they were live, and contact PPL at 1-800-342-5775.
Restoration Time: PPL Electric Utilities expects to restore most of the customers currently without power by late Tuesday night. A small number of customers within the Harrisburg region may be without electricity until Wednesday afternoon.
