Joe Scopelliti Named as PPL’s Susquehanna Nuclear Plant Community Representative

Joe Scopelliti, a 23-year veteran with PPL Corporation, has been named manager of community relations for the company’s Susquehanna nuclear power plant near Berwick, Pa.

“The majority of Joe’s career has been focused on forging strong relationships between PPL and the Susquehanna plant and our neighbors,” said Dan McCarthy, PPL’s general manager of Corporate Communications. “We are fortunate, at this difficult time, to have Joe step into this position with his knowledge of the plant and his commitment to and involvement in Berwick and the surrounding communities.”

Scopelliti succeeds Luis Ramos, another long-time PPL employee, who recently died as a result of a car accident.

Scopelliti is a member of the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce, Central Susquehanna Community Foundation, Shamokin Area Industrial Corp., Tri-Chamber Foundation Inc., Milton Area Industrial Development Association Committee, Berwick Rotary Club and local American Nuclear Society chapter.

He is a past chairman of the Berwick Area Chamber of Commerce, chairman of Faith United Evangelical Lutheran Church and campaign chair for the Berwick Area United Way.

He is active in fundraising for the Berwick Area United Way, the United Way of Columbia County, the Columbia-Montour Council of Boy Scouts of America and the Berwick Area YMCA.

Scopelliti joined PPL in 1984 as a chemical technician at the Susquehanna plant. He later worked as a senior information specialist at the Susquehanna Energy Information Center, rising to the position of supervisor before leaving in 2006 to become the regional community relations director for Columbia, Montour and Northumberland counties.

A native of Shamokin, Scopelliti earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Bloomsburg University. He is pursuing a degree in business administration with a focus on management, also from Bloomsburg University. Scopelliti and his wife, Karen, live in Berwick with their two daughters.

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.

PPL Susquehanna is one of PPL Corporation’s generating facilities. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) controls more than 11,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to about 4 million customers in Pennsylvania and the United Kingdom.
