Light Smarter, Pay Less campaign kick-off event Saturday (1/30) in Allentown
Saving energy and money with compact fluorescent light bulbs just got a lot easier thanks to a new E-power program from PPL Electric Utilities.
Through this initiative, customers can receive significant discounts on ENERGY STAR® qualified CFLs at more than 540 retail locations. CFLs use about 75 percent less energy than comparable incandescent bulbs and can last up to 10 times as long.
To kick off the Light Smarter, Pay Less program, PPL Electric Utilities is inviting its customers to a special event Saturday (1/30) at Home Depot, 1951 Glenwood St., Allentown, Pa.
Customers who attend can learn more about the benefits of CFLs and get a free 14-watt twist CFL for every CFL purchased (limit of 12 free bulbs per customer). The “buy one, get one free” pricing is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., along with prizes and other giveaways. WZZO also will be broadcasting live from the event.
“Installing CFLs is a simple, low-cost step our customers can take to reduce energy use and save money,” said Bob Geneczko, PPL Electric Utilities’ vice president of Customer Services. “With these discounts, we’re making it even easier for people to save — now and in the future.”
According to the ENERGY STAR Web site, if every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified bulb, that would save enough electricity to light more than 3 million homes for a year. Although CFLs usually cost more than comparable incandescent bulbs, they generate energy savings worth up to $30 per bulb over their lifetime, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The E-power CFL program makes these energy-efficient light bulbs even more cost-effective by reducing their price at local retailers. No coupons are necessary, and customers can purchase multiple discounted bulbs per store visit. Discounted bulbs are available at Home Depot and other retail locations.
The program also helps recycle spent CFL bulbs. CFL bulbs should be handled carefully and disposed of properly through recycling facilities available at local Home Depot stores and other locations.
Customers can find a complete list of retailers for CFL discounts and recycling facilities at www.pplelectric.com/e-power or by calling toll-free 1-888-217-2332.
In addition to the Allentown event, the following Home Depot locations also are offering “Buy One CFL, Get One Free” pricing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (1/30):
- Wilkes-Barre — 41 Spring St.
- Lancaster — 1700 Fruitville Pike D.
