PPL restricting public access to Suzy’s Hole area of Pequea Creek

PPL, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania State Police and Pennsylvania Game Commission, has posted “no trespassing” signs in an area within the boundary of its Holtwood hydroelectric project to limit public access to the area of the Pequea Creek known locally as Suzy’s Hole.

“PPL has a long history of making its land available for public use and recreation, but we have taken this action in response to the increase in problems along this portion of the creek,” said N. Christian Porse, site supervisor for PPL Holtwood.

PPL has posted “no trespassing” signs in a one-mile area that parallels state game lands and the Pequea Creek from River Road to Fox Hollow Road in Martic Township.

“We are joining with township officials, state police and the game commission in a coordinated effort to eliminate problems in that area,” Porse said.

PPL will prosecute those who violate the “no trespassing” restriction, he said.

The Holtwood hydroelectric project includes more than 5,000 acres along both shores of the Susquehanna River in Lancaster and York counties.

The Holtwood hydroelectric power plant has been generating clean, renewable energy on the lower Susquehanna River since 1910. It has a generating capacity of 108 megawatts. PPL is seeking approval of a proposal to expand the existing plant, adding another 125 megawatts of renewable energy.

PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), headquartered in Allentown, Pa., owns or controls more than 12,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to about 4 million customers in Pennsylvania and the United Kingdom.
