PPL Electric Utilities’ efforts to promote energy efficiency and help customers take greater control of their electric use have earned it a Green Power award from PennFuture, one of the state’s leading environmental advocacy organizations.
In presenting the award, PennFuture praised the company for its online Energy Analyzer, which provides customers with daily electricity usage information, helps them analyze their home’s energy use, and provides tips to save.
It also recognized the company for expanding an existing time-of-use pilot program and for investing in advanced metering and software that will ultimately enable the company to offer time-of-use rates to all customers in 2010.
“We’re proud to receive this award and committed to giving customers information and options that help them use energy wisely and protect the environment,” said David G. DeCampli, president of PPL Electric Utilities.
DeCampli said more than 220,000 customers have accessed the company’s Energy Analyzer at www.pplelectric.com since its launch. In addition, he said the company has worked to promote energy efficiency through presentations to community groups; visits by the company’s e-power team to malls, senior centers and special events; and regular tips in the company’s Connect newsletter, which is sent with customer bills.
As part of its ongoing e-power efforts, PPL Electric Utilities is also providing grants to companies that build “green,” as well as rebates to small businesses that upgrade to energy-efficient lighting.
This fall, in partnership with the National Energy Fund, it will kick off a program for students to raise awareness about energy efficiency in school districts throughout the company’s service territory. In addition, it is conducting several energy-efficiency demonstration projects.
DeCampli said these and other efforts the company is making to promote energy efficiency will continue.
“Raising awareness about energy efficiency is the right thing to do,” he said. “When customers save, it not only saves them money, but it also protects the environment, conserves natural resources, reduces the need for new power plants and power lines, and supports a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
PPL Electric Utilities Corporation, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation that provides electricity delivery services to about 1.4 million customers in Pennsylvania, has consistently ranked among the best companies for customer service in the United States.
