Susquehanna Riverlands to host Fall Festival on Oct. 11

To say “thank you” to all its neighbors, PPL’s Susquehanna nuclear plant will host a day of food, music and fun at the Riverlands Environmental Preserve from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.

“We’ll have free hayrides, face and pumpkin painting, and other activities for the kids, along with special programs for adults and free refreshments,” said Joe Scopelliti, Susquehanna community relations manager. “We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the fun.”

In addition, Berwick Hospital will have health and wellness information available, and local farmers will sell their produce. Guided tours of the plant perimeter will be offered.

At 10 a.m., Tonya Sagar will demonstrate canning and other preserving techniques in the Susquehanna Energy Information Center auditorium. At 1:30 p.m., acclaimed local musician Jay Smar will sing and tell stories about northeast Pennsylvania’s proud coal-mining history, the world’s first “gravity” railroad and the invention of the roller coaster, among other things.

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about seven miles north of Berwick, is owned jointly by PPL Susquehanna LLC and Allegheny Electric Cooperative Inc. and is operated by PPL Susquehanna.

PPL Susquehanna is one of PPL Corporation’s generating facilities. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) controls more than 11,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to about 4 million customers in Pennsylvania and the United Kingdom.
