PPL to Host Canoeists During Susquehanna Sojourn

PPL’s Holtwood Environmental Preserve will welcome nearly 100 canoeists as they make their way down the Susquehanna River during the 17th annual Susquehanna Sojourn.

Sponsored by the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, the seven-day canoe trip will take place from July 16-July 22. This year, the Susquehanna Sojourn will be canoeing the section of the Susquehanna from Safe Harbor Dam in Lancaster County, Pa., to the Chesapeake Bay.

“We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the alliance to help promote awareness of the Susquehanna River and the important role it plays in the region,” said Mark Arbogast, assistant superintendent of PPL’s Environmental Preserves.

The canoeists will arrive at PPL’s Holtwood Dam on July 18. Participants will learn about PPL’s proposal to expand the hydroelectric plant to increase the amount of clean, renewable energy it generates. They also will learn about the proposal to improve fish passage at the dam.

In addition to the evening program, PPL will sponsor dinner for the sojourn participants. The canoeists will camp for the night at a pavilion at the Holtwood Environmental Preserve before continuing their journey.

PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), headquartered in Allentown, Pa., controls more than 11,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to more than 4 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
