David J. Bonenberger of Tamaqua, a 23-year PPL employee, has been appointed regional director-Operations for PPL Electric Utilities.
He is responsible for design, construction, maintenance and reliable performance of the electric delivery system in parts of Luzerne, Schuylkill, Carbon and Northumberland counties, including the Hazleton, Wilkes-Barre, Pottsville, Lehighton and Shamokin areas. This area has about 220,000 PPL Electric Utilities’ customers.
Bonenberger, who will be based at PPL Electric Utilities’ Hazleton Service Center, previously served as manager of Field Services Operations Support, a group that provided vegetation management, reliability and maintenance support, rights of way, pole attachment and telecom business services, field contacts with customers, and administrative services throughout the company’s 29-county service area in eastern and central Pennsylvania.
He joined PPL in 1984 as assistant field office manager during construction of the Susquehanna nuclear power plant. In 1985, he joined PPL’s Financial Department where he held various job titles before accepting a position in the customer service department of PPL Electric Utilities in 1990.
Later, he played a key role in the startup of two PPL subsidiaries: PPL EnergyPlus’ retail electricity sales group, and PPLSolutions, which provides customer service, billing and other support functions to competitive energy suppliers across the country. He returned to PPL Electric Utilities in 2004 and has held management positions in the Asset Management and Field Services departments.
Bonenberger has a degree in accounting from Bloomsburg University and a master’s degree in business administration from Wilkes College. He lives in Tamaqua with his wife, Francine.
