PPL Releases Water from Lake Wallenpaupack to Improve Boating and Rafting on Lackawaxen River

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (July 14, 2005) — PPL Corporation has begun a series of scheduled water releases from Lake Wallenpaupack to improve boating and other recreation on the Lackawaxen River in Pike County, Pa.

The first water release was July 8. Five additional releases are scheduled for each Friday starting July 15 and ending Aug. 12, provided that water is available. Two Saturday boating releases also are planned for Sept. 10 and 24.

The releases will be scheduled between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and continue for about five hours. Exact times will be available a week before the release by calling 1-800-807-2474 or visiting www.lakelevelppl.com.

In the past, PPL has met with operators of rafting companies on the river to determine the best amount of flow for river rafting, and the releases will provide enough water for good boating and rafting conditions on the Lackawaxen on release days.

Lake Wallenpaupack was built by PPL in 1926 to provide water for the company's Wallenpaupack hydroelectric power plant. The 5,700-acre lake, on the border of Wayne and Pike counties in the Pocono Mountains, is a valuable regional resource for power generation, drought management and recreation.
