PPL Corporation Provides Office Space at Lake Wallenpaupack for Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has gained field office space at Lake Wallenpaupack through a partnership with PPL Corporation.

"The Fish and Boat Commission did not have an office on the lake," said Sally Corl, law enforcement manager for the commission's Northeast Region. "The office will help us in our efforts to promote safe boating, deter illegal behavior and enforce the laws by providing administrative space for the waterways conservation officer who patrols the lake."

"PPL welcomed this opportunity to partner with the commission by providing a much-needed place for staff to work," said Brad Piatt, PPL's manager of Peaking Power. "We're grateful for the work of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to enforce boating and fishing laws on the lake, enhancing everyone's enjoyment of this facility."

Piatt also credited state Rep. Jerry Birmelin (R-Wayne) and Lake Watch Assistance, a volunteer organization offering aid to boaters on the lake, in helping make the innovative arrangement a reality.

The commission voted on Tuesday (1/25) to lease the office space, which PPL is making available for $1 per year. The office space, located near the dam, became available when PPL moved into new office space at the Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center, which opened in 2003. As a field office, commission officers will use the space exclusively for administrative work. There will be no regular public business hours at the office.

PPL owns Lake Wallenpaupack, having created the lake in the 1920s for hydroelectric generation. It is the largest lake in eastern Pennsylvania, with 52 miles of shoreline.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is the state agency with management responsibility for fish, fishing and recreational boating in the commonwealth. The commission's waterways conservation officers and their deputies enforce laws and regulations related to the wise and safe use of aquatic resources.
