Congressman Thanks PPL Electric Utilities, IBEW Local 1600 for Hurricane Relief Work

U.S. Rep. Charles W. Dent (R-15th District) presented officials from PPL Electric Utilities and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1600 with a plaque in honor of their relief efforts in Mississippi and Louisiana following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

About 180 employees of PPL Electric Utilities, many of them members of Local 1600, left their homes and families to help people on the Gulf Coast by rebuilding electric delivery systems destroyed by the storms.

The congressman commended the workers during a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives in October.

"These workers endured long hours of work, oppressive heat, uprooted trees, biting insects and many other hazards to their personal safety," Dent said. "Through their hard work, caring and professionalism, they became true goodwill ambassadors."

"These hurricanes were among the worst natural disasters in our nation's history," said John F. Sipics, president of PPL Electric Utilities. "Employees from across our 29-county service area traveled a long way and made many personal sacrifices to help people who had lost everything. We appreciate the fact that Congressman Dent has recognized the work of our employees."
