PPL Gas Utilities Recognized for Habitat for Humanity Work

Company Program Supplies Water Heater, Pays for Installation in Habitat Homes

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (April 25, 2005) – PPL Gas Utilities has earned Tri-County Habitat for Humanity's Golden Hammer award for the company's work in supporting affordable housing for those in need in Central Pennsylvania.

PPL supplies free water heaters and pays the cost of installation for Habitat for Humanity homes built in areas served by its gas subsidiary. To qualify, the homes must use natural gas or propane as their primary heating source.

PPL is supporting Tri-County Habitat for Humanity's work on a six-home development in Philipsburg, Centre County, and a two-home site in Clearfield, Clearfield County.

"It feels good to give back to the communities we serve and help those in need," said Andy Montero, Marketing manager for PPL Gas Utilities. "PPL has partnered with Tri-County Habitat for Humanity and additional Habitat chapters for several years. Our goal is to expand this support throughout the 34 counties we serve."

Montero said water heaters are the second largest energy users in most homes. The gas water heaters PPL provides are energy efficient.

Under the water heater program, units have been installed in Habitat for Humanity homes in Blossburg, Coudersport, East Stroudsburg, Huntingdon, Milesburg, Philipsburg and Shippensburg in Pennsylvania. Additional installations are planned for homes in Clearfield, Coudersport and Philipsburg.

"The water heater program is one of the many ways in which PPL responds to community needs," said Montero. "From employee and company United Way donations to low-income energy assistance, volunteerism, educational outreach and economic development support, PPL is committed to improving the quality of life in local communities. And through our gas marketing programs, we are educating homeowners and businesses about the comfort, energy-efficiency and value of natural gas."

Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, faith-based organization that seeks to make home ownership possible for low-income families. Local, independent Habitat for Humanity affiliates coordinate home building, fund raising, family selection and mortgage services. Homes are sold to families in need at no profit and are financed with no-interest loans. The program relies upon volunteer labor and financial and material donations.

Habitat for Humanity also provides new homeowners education on the benefits of financial planning, energy efficiency and conservation. PPL Gas Utilities helps to educate these new homeowners about the efficiency and low operating costs of natural gas and propane-fueled home appliances.

Habitat for Humanity chapters interested in participating in PPL's water heater program should contact Montero at 484-634-3128.

PPL Gas Utilities and its Penn Fuel Propane affiliate serve more than 100,000 customers across Pennsylvania and a small part of Maryland.

PPL Gas Utilities is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation. Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation controls about 12,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to nearly 5 million customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
