New PPL Commercial Features Employee from Harrisburg

The Harrisburg area is featured prominently in two new television commercials for PPL Electric Utilities that will go on the air in March. One of the 30-second spots features a local PPL employee.

Charlie Appleberry of Harrisburg tells his story of meeting and shaking hands with Wilt Chamberlain at the Hershey Arena after the basketball legend scored 100 points in a game for the Philadelphia Warriors on March 2, 1962.

"PPL and the communities it serves have grown together and experienced a great deal of history in the process," said John F. Sipics, president of PPL Electric Utilities. "We're pleased to feature communities in our ads, and in this case to feature Charlie Appleberry, who is a great example of how PPL employees serve as leaders and contributors in the community."

Appleberry, a facility records specialist at the Harrisburg Service Center on Brookwood Street, is a 32-year employee of PPL. He is an assistant football coach for the offensive and defensive lines at Harrisburg High School, and previously worked as an assistant football coach at Central Dauphin and Susquehanna Township.

He also serves on the food bank committee for the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Harrisburg, and participates in PPL's Community of Volunteers program.

"It is an honor to represent the people of PPL in this commercial," Appleberry said, "because so many of us care deeply about making our communities better places to live and work."

"PPL is part of the fabric of the communities we serve," Sipics said. "These new commercials are another example of our commitment to promote eastern and central Pennsylvania."

Other Harrisburg area locations in the new commercials are the National Civil War Museum and the Capitol Building. Also, the Fulton Theater in Lancaster is included in one of the commercials.

PPL Electric Utilities is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation. Headquartered in Allentown, PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) controls about 11,500 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
