PPL Customers Use Record Amount of Electricity; Power Supplies Adequate

PPL Corporation's electricity delivery customers in Pennsylvania set a record on Friday (1/16), using 7,549 megawatts of electricity at 8 a.m.

Supplies of electricity are expected to be adequate throughout the day. Power plant operations in the region have not been significantly affected by the cold, so there should be sufficient supplies of electricity available.

The old record for electricity demand among PPL customers was 7,155 megawatts, which occurred on Jan. 24, 2003.

"We work year-round to ensure that our electric delivery customers have electricity when they need it the most," said John Sipics, president of PPL Electric Utilities. "It's times like these that our investments in system reliability really pay off."

Sipics urged customers to use electricity wisely and safely, including making sure that any space heaters are not close to flammable materials.

PPL Electric Utilities is a subsidiary of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL). Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., PPL Corporation controls about 11,500 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom and Latin America.
