PPL Electric Utilities Expects to Restore Power to Most Pocono Customers Tonight or Thursday; A Few Developments Will Take Longer

Situation:
Crews continue to make progress in restoring power to people who have been living without electricity because of the ice storm. We expect nearly all people in the Poconos to have electricity back tonight or tomorrow.

In some residential developments – Towamensing Trails, Indian Mountain Lake and Mt. Pocahontas – the devastation is much greater than anticipated. The restoration time for these developments is longer than other areas of the Poconos. A few homes in these developments may require work that could extend into the weekend.

PPL Electric Utilities is sending more than 200 linemen and electricians and more than 100 tree-trimming contractors into these three developments. To help residents cope with living without electricity, PPL Electric Utilities is supplying meals, drinking water and ice at homeowners' association facilities; providing personal-care kits including batteries, shampoo, and other items; and sending employees to customers' homes to keep them apprised of progress.

Customers Restored: 225,000 as of 6 p.m. Wednesday

Customers Without Power: 9,000 as of 6 p.m. Wednesday

Affected Areas: Parts of Monroe, Carbon and Luzerne counties

Number of Jobs Pending: About 250

Additional Information: Customers should call PPL Electric Utilities' toll free number, 1-800-342-5775, if they are without power or if their power goes out.
