PPL Electric Utilities crews worked through the night and into this morning (11/14) to restore power to customers who lost service resulting from a powerful wind storm that raked the Northeast.
Gusty winds in excess of 60 mph downed trees and limbs into power lines across a wide area, including the area served by PPL Electric Utilities. The sustained winds have caused continuing outages. PPL crews began their work before daybreak Thursday (11/13) and will continue working around the clock until all customers are back in service.
As of 6 a.m. today (11/14), about 27,000 customer remained without service.
Customers in the Lehigh Valley, the north-central counties of Pennsylvania and the Pocono region were the hardest hit. There are about 950 repair jobs pending.
Restoration work will likely extend into Saturday (11/15) in all areas except Lancaster. A few isolated outages may extend into Sunday (11/16).
As part of its outreach efforts, PPL is making personal calls to customers who will be without service for a prolonged period. These customers are being informed on where to go for free ice and water.
