PPL Electric Utilities Continuing Storm Recovery Work; Service Restored to 195,000 Customers Since Monday

Since severe weather settled over eastern and central Pennsylvania Monday night (7/21), PPL Electric Utilities has restored service to about 195,000 customers across its 29-county service area. As of 3 p.m. Wednesday (7/23), fewer than 5,000 customers were without power. PPL Electric Utilities crews, helped by electrical contractors, tree-trimming services and visiting crews from Virginia and Washington, D.C., are working around the clock until every customer is back in service.

Customers Restored: 195,000 as of 3 p.m. Wednesday

Customers Without Power: fewer than 5,000 as of 3 p.m. Wednesday

Affected Areas: Most of the remaining outages are in the Sunbury, Bloomsburg and Scranton areas.

Number of Jobs Pending: about 300

Cause of Outages: Outage reports continue to come in as thunderstorm cells pop up across the region. Wind and lightning are the major causes of damage.

Estimated Restoration Time: Customers in most of the areas where we continue to have outages should be back in service by midnight. In the Sunbury area of central Pennsylvania, extensive damage left in the wake of the storm will require work into Thursday afternoon (7/24).

Additional Information:
PPL employees have made more than 5,000 calls to customers and have arranged for stores to provide drinking water and ice to customers coping with extended outages.

PPL Electric Utilities continues to assess available of crews and support from other utilities, but little outside help is available. The company is moving all available resources to central Pennsylvania to help repair damage and restore service there as quickly as possible, while leaving an adequate number of people in each area should they be needed to respond to outage calls as new storms pop up.

Customers who are still without power should call PPL Electric Utilities toll free, 1-800-342-5775. Our electronic reporting system is an easy and convenient way for customers to report outages 24 hours a day.
