PPL Electric Utilities is sending 15 power line crews to help Duquesne Light Co. restore electricity to the Pittsburgh area after fast moving thunderstorms downed power lines last night.
Similar storms also tore through PPL Electric Utilities' 29-county service territory in central and eastern Pennsylvania. However, PPL crews were able to restore power to almost all of its customers by this morning (6/1).
John Sipics, vice president-PPL Electric Utilities, said the crews are now eager to help Duquesne turn the lights back on in western Pennsylvania.
"Our dedicated linemen worked through the night to restore power to our customers and, after a little rest, they now will be able to help the harder hit Pittsburgh residents."
Linemen began heading to Pittsburgh this morning. Crews were called out from Harrisburg, Bloomsburg, Sunbury, Williamsport, Frackville, Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton.
