Summer Electricity Use Record Set by PPL Electric Utilities’ Customers

Customers of PPL Electric Utilities set a summer record for electricity use Tuesday afternoon (7/23).

At 1:34 p.m., customers used an estimated 6,702 megawatts of electricity, breaking the summer record of 6,675 megawatts set on Aug. 7, 2001. The all-time electricity use record for PPL Electric Utilities is 6,928 megawatts set on Jan. 17, 2000.

With temperatures soaring into the 90s on several days in July, PPL Electric Utilities has continued to provide reliable electric delivery service.

"We maintain and operate power lines and equipment for these kinds of weather conditions so customers have the reliable electric delivery service they expect for air conditioning and other uses," said Ray Stoudt, manager-Engineering & Design for PPL Electric Utilities.

PPL Electric Utilities provides electricity delivery service to 1.3 million customers in 29 counties of eastern and central Pennsylvania.
