Customers of PPL Electric Utilities can be assured that when they crank up their air conditioners and fans this afternoon to escape the steamy temperature outside, they will have the electricity they need to keep cool.

"PPL Electric Utilities works year-round to make sure our electricity delivery system can handle the extremely high demand that occurs on a handful of days each year, and today (6/28) is certainly one of those days," said Robert M. Geneczko, vice president of Power Delivery.

Customer demand for electricity throughout the region is expected to set a record later today.

PPL Electric Utilities spends millions of dollars every year building, maintaining and repairing its delivery system – everything from high-voltage power lines to electrical substations to the wires on poles in residential neighborhoods, Geneczko said.

"Our customers deserve absolute reliability," he said. "When people flip the switch, they don't want to hear excuses. They want to hear their air conditioner purring. That's the standard by which we run our electricity delivery system."

The regional PJM Interconnection Power Pool, which manages the region's generating plants to make sure there is enough power to meet demand, reports that power supplies are expected to be sufficient to meet record demand today. Geneczko reminded customers to use energy wisely.
