PPL Generation Sponsors Executive Conference on Safety

Safety in the workplace will be the focus of an executive conference PPL Generation, LLC, is sponsoring with several other safety-conscious companies.

The conference, entitled "Achieving Profitability and Operational Safety in a Competitive Marketplace", is slated to run from March 18-20 at the Baltimore Convention Center. PPL Generation Vice President Dennis Murphy said PPL is sponsoring the conference as a way to share new ideas about the important role of safety in the rapidly deregulating marketplace.

The event will feature corporate leaders, senior managers, plant managers and safety professionals who will talk about lessons learned, exchange viewpoints and discuss the future of safety in today's highly competitive markets.

"This meeting is about safety as part of our corporate culture," noted Frank Long, PPL Exec Vice President and President PPL Generation. "Safety begins with each individual and this commitment extends all the way to the top management levels. This conference will emphasize the role of corporate leaders in cultivating an atmosphere of safety in their workplace."

Event Co-Chair Richard A. McCormack, Executive Consultant for PG&E National Energy Group, echoed Long's statement. "No matter how safe plant operators are, companies are not safe unless safety is built into every decision, system and process."

Power magazine will be publishing articles about or authored by the conference sponsors prior to the meeting. MyPlant.com will also be setting up an information center and on-line discussion forum on subjects in the conference agenda.
"This is about going beyond compliance," Murphy added. "We can be a safe and profitable company; and that is why we are participating in this conference."

Other corporate sponsors include: Dupont Safety Resources, PG&E National Energy Group, Reliant Energy, Edison Mission Energy, Powergen, Ontario Power Generation, the Alliance of Energy Suppliers and the Electric Power Supply Association.
