PPL Corporation Crisis Systems Team Shuts Down Virus in Five Short Hours

Allentown, P.A.-- More than 10,000 PPL Corp. employees held their collective breath as the latest wide spread e-mail virus attacked the Corporation's email servers at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday morning.

PPL's Information Services department immediately switched into crisis mode and shut down the company's e-mail servers less than half an hour after the virus began its assault. This quick thinking allowed technicians to eradicate the crippling virus from PPL's computer system in five short hours.

According to Mike Hill, PPL's vice president for Information Services, companies who did not react as quickly are still feeling the effects of the virus today.

"When we realized this virus was threatening to bring our system down, we knew we had to act," said Hill. "In this day and age, e-mail has become an integral part of doing business. We made the right decision and were able to head off "I Love You" before it seriously disrupted this vital communication link in our company."

Mr. Hill is available for television, radio, and print interviews upon request. If interested, please call Andy Hallmark at (610) 774-5997 or (610) 774-5153.
