Emmaus - PPL Project Earth volunteers today (5/4) teamed up with the Poole Wildlands Conservancy to help build a handicap accessible wetlands boardwalk, repair picnic areas for families, and work to improve vegetation throughout the Wildlands area.
More than 40 volunteers rolled up their sleeves in the effort. According to PPL representative Lynda Brucker, PPL Project Earth is supporting the improvement effort because the company feels it has a responsibility to invest resources in the communities where it does business.
"PPL has always been proud to say that we live where we work. We value a healthy environment, clean neighborhoods and accessible nature areas just like everyone else. That is why our PPL Project Earth crew is joining this effort," said Brucker.
During Thursday's event, volunteers worked on nine separate restoration projects in the Conservancy. Projects include landscaping, woodwork on existing picnic areas, painting the onsite facilities, and work on a proposed 1,300 foot wetlands boardwalk.
PPL Project Earth is a program through which PPL educates children about energy alternatives, works to improve environmental performance at its power plants, and partners with communities on environmental and beautification projects throughout Pennsylvania.
