PPL Sponsors Safety, Equipment Show

PPL Utilities will co-sponsor a PA One Call equipment show Saturday, May 13 at Indian Park, Montoursville from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The educational program is aimed at homeowners, contractors, engineers and others who may need to perform excavation work anywhere in the Commonwealth.

PA One Call is a statewide organization that pinpoints underground utilities before excavation begins to prevent damage and protect the public and workers from injury.

Under state law, anyone planning to do work involving excavation must contact One Call at least three days before the project begins. One Call then notifies the appropriate utilities to mark areas where digging could contact buried cables or pipes so workers can avoid them.

The May 13 Equipment Show in Lycoming County will feature an explanation of the law, a description of how the service works, and seminars on safe work practices. Representatives from PPL and other utilities will provide information on their specific installations and how to work around them in a safe manor.

Exhibitors will also be on hand to demonstrate the latest equipment and supplies available to help contractors safely and efficiently perform their daily work. Attendees will find modern heavy equipment as well as locating devices and worker-protection items such as flags, cones, work clothes and hard-hats.

Don Stringfellow, PPL community development director, notes that PPL supports activities like this as part of its commitment to the communities it serves.

"PPL is strongly focused on safety," he says. "It's a natural extension of that focus to support programs that help others to make their work environments safer."
