Luis A. Ramos, manager of community affairs at PP&L, Inc., will receive the Community Partner - Distinguished Service Award at the 9th annual Economic Outlook and Community Awards Presentation Jan. 27 in Allentown.
The award recognizes community leadership, volunteerism, consensus building and community vision and pride. The Lehigh County Chamber of Commerce and Lehigh Carbon Community College will host the event at noon at the Allentown Hilton, 904 Hamilton St.
Ramos, known throughout the Lehigh Valley for his community outreach, is president and a founding member of the Hispanic Business Council of the Lehigh Valley. He serves as president of the Valley Youth House board and as a board member of Latin Alliance and Lehigh Valley Partnership.
Ramos is a member of the President's Advisory Council at Allentown College, the advisory board of the Institute for the Development of a Healthy Community, Allentown School District's Leadership Alliance and the Kiwanis Club of Allentown. He is corporate adviser to the various volunteer teams at PP&L, Inc. and also coaches youth soccer.
"Lou has been a dedicated steward of PP&L's volunteer and community commitments,'' said William F. Hecht, chairman, president and chief executive officer of PP&L, Inc. "This award is further testimony of his hard work and leadership.''
In 1998, Ramos received the prestigious Eagle Award from the National Eagle Leadership Institute. The award recognizes African-American and Hispanic professionals for their leadership and community outreach.
Last year, he was appointed by U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, to serve on the senate's Republican Task Force on Hispanic Affairs.
Ramos lives in Bethlehem with his wife, Sharon, and their children, Gregory and Jennifer.
