Natural gas and electricity customers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey - previously served by Florida-based FPL Energy Services - soon will become customers of PP&L Energy Plus.

PP&L EnergyPlus Co., the retail marketing arm of PP&L Resources, Inc. (NYSE:PPL), agreed to serve the customers after FPL Energy Services decided to exit the competitive energy markets in the Northeast. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

"We're pleased to welcome these customers to PP&L EnergyPlus, a leading supplier of competitively priced electricity and natural gas," said Larry De Simone, PP&L EnergyPlus president. "We're excited about providing them with the competitive prices and excellent service that our thousands of existing customers already enjoy."

The customers include businesses, department stores, school districts and industrial customers who now purchase retail electricity and natural gas from FPL Energy Services. Their new service from PP&L EnergyPlus will begin during the first quarter of 2000, after any applicable regulatory and contractual requirements are met.
