PP&L, Inc. Issues Hurricane Floyd Update #6

ALLENTOWN, Pa.---Here is the latest information from PP&L, Inc. about the restoration efforts following Hurricane Floyd:

-- PP&L's massive restoration effort continues to make progress in restoring service to customers following Hurricane Floyd. At 9:30 p.m. Saturday (9/18), 17,000 PP&L customers were without power.

-- Since the storm began, power has been restored to about 250,000 PP&L customers.

-- All of PP&L's line crews are involved in the restoration effort. They are being assisted by contractors and crews from other electric companies from as far away as West Virginia and Canada. There are 450 to 500 linemen and electrical workers involved in restoring service.

-- PP&L is not providing crews to other utilities affected by Hurricane Floyd at this time. When service has been restored to all of PP&L's customers, the company will evaluate any request it may receive for assistance from other neighboring electric companies.

-- PP&L has begun moving line crews within its service area to locations where customers remain without power. Additional crews are being sent to the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos (Monroe, Wayne and Pike counties) and the Harrisburg area.

-- PP&L projects that most customers affected by the storm will have electricity by Sunday night. Some customers, however, will be without power into Monday.

-- PP&L, in conjunction with county emergency management agencies across eastern and central Pennsylvania, has arranged outreach services to customers who have been without power for an extended period of time. PP&L is providing ice and dry ice at several locations for customers. PP&L has helped arrange to provide water in some areas. PP&L employees have made thousands of phone calls to customers without power to provide information and offer assistance.
