ALLENTOWN, Pa.---Here is the latest information from PP&L, Inc. about the restoration efforts following Hurricane Floyd:
-- PP&L continues to make progress in restoring service to customers following Hurricane Floyd, one of the most damaging storms in company history. As of 8 a.m. Saturday (9/18), 35,000 PP&L customers were without power, down from 104,000 Friday morning.
-- Since the storm began, power has been restored to 230,000 customers.
-- PP&L continues to project that most customers will be back in service by the end of the weekend. Some customers may not have power restored until Monday. Work will continue around the clock until all PP&L customers are back in service.
-- Today, PP&L will have 450 to 500 linemen and electrical workers involved in the effort to restore service to customers. That includes all available PP&L line crews, contractors and crews from other electric companies.
-- Linemen from electric companies as far away as West Virginia and Canada have joined the recovery effort to supplement PP&L crews, who have been working on the storm since Thursday (9/15).
-- PP&L is providing free ice and dry ice at several locations throughout eastern and central Pennsylvania to help customers facing extended power outages. Two new locations in the Lehigh Valley are Super Fresh on Route 378 near Bethlehem and Laneco at routes 248 and 191 in Nazareth.
