Hurricane Floyd Update #3

Here is the latest information from PP&L, Inc. about the storm as of 5 a.m.:

-- Since Wednesday evening, more than 237,000 PP&L customers have experienced service interruptions.

-- In the past 36 hours, PP&L crews have restored service to about 130,000 customers.

-- As of 5 a.m. Friday (9/17), 104,000 PP&L customers remain without power, most in the Lehigh Valley and Harrisburg areas. (Lehigh Valley: 39,000; Harrisburg area: 35,000)

-- PP&L continue to work around the clock to restore power. In addition, PP&L has secured outside assistance from contractors and other electric companies, including Duquesne Light of Pittsburgh, Ontario Hydro of Toronto and Hydro Quebec of Montreal.

-- While PP&L expects to restore power to most customers with the next 48 hours, some customers who are difficult to access may remain without power until Monday.

-- Any PP&L customer who experiences a power outage should call the company's toll-free service number, 1-800-342-5775 (1-800 DIAL PPL) to report the problem.
