PP&L, Inc. Employee Named to Advisory Committee to U.S. Senate Republican Conference Task Force on Hispanic Affairs

Lou Ramos, PP&L, Inc.'s manager of Community Affairs, has been nominated to serve a one-year term as an advisory committee member to the U.S. Senate Republican Conference Task Force on Hispanic Affairs.

As a committee member, Ramos will advise the task force on how policies and legislation may affect the Hispanic community.

The task force was formed in October 1987 to provide a forum for Hispanic leaders to raise awareness and support for issues facing the Hispanic community in the areas of economic development, education, literacy, employment and health.

Advisory committee members meet with the task force in Washington, D. C. about three times a year. Ramos joins about 100 individuals from across the country from companies and organizations such as The Coca-Cola Company; Bureau of the Census; U.S. Department of Energy; Ohio Civil Rights Commission; and the Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons.

William F. Hecht, chairman, president and CEO of PP&L, Inc., congratulated Ramos on this important appointment. "PP&L, Inc.'s strong commitment to its communities is exemplified in employees like Ramos, who works full time in community service while at work, then spends countless off-hours on other service and leadership activities. Through the company's Community of Volunteers program more than 1,500 PP&L, Inc. employees devote more than 170,000 hours a year to volunteer efforts to make communities better places to live," said Hecht.

Last year, Ramos received the coveted Eagle Award from the National Eagle Leadership Institute in Kansas City, Mo. The award recognizes Black and Hispanic professionals for their leadership, professional accomplishments and community outreach.

As a PP&L, Inc. employee, Ramos has taken a leadership role in such groups as the Valley Youth House; Downtown Allentown Kiwanis Club; Tri-Chamber Hispanic Business Council, Lehigh Valley; Allentown School District Leadership Alliance; President's Advisory Council Board; Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales; Community Action Development Corp, Allentown; Lehigh Valley Business Partnership; and Latino Alliance of the Lehigh Valley.

His off-hours community service work includes coaching two teenage soccer teams and, serving on the finance committee of Holy Infancy Church in Bethlehem. He worked on the Lehigh University alumni fund-raising campaigns for over 20 years. He has won the Casa Guadalupe Community Service Award; was twice recipient of the Lehigh University Alumni Fund Volunteer Service award; and a past recipient of the Minsi Trails Council Good Turn Award.

Ramos resides in Bethlehem with his wife Sharon and their two children, Gregory and Jennifer.
