PP&L, Inc. Names Manager-Nuclear Security

PP&L, Inc. has named Mark M. Golden to the position of manager of Nuclear Security at the Susquehanna nuclear plant.

In his new position, Golden, who had been supervisor of Programs and Testing at the nuclear plant since 1991, will manage the plant's security activities.

"Security at nuclear facilities like Susquehanna is very strict to ensure that the health and safety of the public is protected from any potential risk caused by sabotage," said Herbert D. Woodeshick, PP&L, Inc.'s special assistant to the president for Susquehanna.

"With his extensive nuclear power background both at Susquehanna and in the U.S. Navy, Mark will provide the leadership necessary to ensure that we have an efficient, effective and professional security organization that is ready to respond quickly to changing plant operational needs."

Golden, who began his career at PP&L, Inc. in 1984 as senior results engineer-Operations at the Susquehanna nuclear plant, completed certification as a senior reactor operator. He was plant engineering supervisor from 1986 to 1991, when he was promoted to his previous position.

A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Golden later earned a master's degree from the School of International Service of American University, Washington, D.C. He also was an Olmsted Scholar, completing two years of graduate studies at the University of Madrid, Spain.

During his 24-year career in the Navy, Golden held a number of positions in nuclear submarines and staffs, retiring as a captain.

An active member of PP&L, Inc.'s Community of Volunteers, Golden serves on the Alumni Board of Directors of Valley Forge Military Academy and College, the Board of Bloomsburg University Campus Ministry and on the foreign language curriculum committee of Central Columbia School District. He and his wife Jeanie are residents of Bloomsburg.

The Susquehanna plant, located in Luzerne County about five miles northeast of Berwick, is owned jointly by PP&L, Inc. and Allegheny Electric Cooperative, Inc.
