PP&L, Inc., Crews Bracing for More Storms

PP&L, Inc. line crews, completing restoration work from severe lightning and thunder storms, are bracing for another round of storms that are moving into the company's service area this evening (8/14) from the south and west.

The company is responding to latest round of storms by calling in additional crews from within PP&L and outside. These storms are expected to cause additional outages similar to those that resulted from the storms last night (8/13) and early today (8/14).

In responding to the severe storms last night and early today, PP&L, Inc. crews had to repair broken poles, downed lines and damaged transformers. They will complete that work this evening. These storms swept through the entire PP&L service area, and crews have been working since the start of the storms last night.

Many of the customers currently without service are in the Lancaster area. The storms that came through that area damaged many transformers that have to be replaced. In addition to supplementing the Lancaster crews with other crews from its service area, PP&L also brought in contractors to help with the restoration work.

PP&L system and regional emergency employees continue to manage the current repair work and monitor the approaching storms.

"Our crews have put in long hours to restore service to customers affected by the storms," said Bob Geneczko, PP&L's vice president for Power Delivery. "We will continue to remain on the job until our work is completed."
