ALLENTOWN, Pa.---PP&L Spectrum, Inc., a subsidiary of PP&L Resources, Inc. (NYSE: PPL), announced today (4/8) that it has acquired Burns Mechanical, Inc., a Philadelphia-area mechanical contracting firm. The company will become a wholly owned subsidiary of PP&L Spectrum, Inc., which markets energy-management services and products.
Lawrence E. De Simone, president of PP&L Spectrum, said the acquisition of Burns Mechanical will further expand PP&L Spectrum's ability to offer energy-management services to large industrial, commercial and institutional customers. Based in Exton, Pa., Burns Mechanical serves customers in the Philadelphia area, including Montgomery, Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties.
De Simone said Burns Mechanical will retain its name and operate with Joseph E. Burns continuing as president. The terms of the purchase agreement were not disclosed.
De Simone said adding Burns Mechanical to PP&L Spectrum also is an excellent way for PP&L Resources to further expand its full-service energy business, which it is marketing under the PP&L EnergyPlusTM brand.
"Large industrial, commercial and institutional customers throughout Pennsylvania and neighboring states are very interested in a wide range of energy services as they have more choices in the changing energy marketplace," said De Simone. "As a competitive player in the energy marketplace, we are committed to expanding our capabilities in the Philadelphia area.
"With Burns Mechanical as part of our team, we will now have greater ability to service large industrial, commercial and institutional customers in the Philadelphia area. Burns Mechanical will complement PP&L Resources' other mechanical contractor subsidiaries, H. T. Lyons, Inc., McCarl's Inc. and McClure Company, which serve eastern, central and western Pennsylvania as well as parts of Ohio, West Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware.
"These four companies -- together with PP&L EnergyPlus and PP&L Spectrum -- will enable us to offer services ranging from energy supply and management services to the design and construction of process piping systems and heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems.
"We are very pleased to welcome Burns Mechanical, Joe Burns himself and the Burns Mechanical team to the PP&L Resources family of companies," said De Simone.
"I am very excited about our future with PP&L Resources," said Burns. "With PP&L Resources' support, along with the experience of its other mechanical contractor and engineering firms, I am confident the Burns team can make a real contribution in meeting the objectives of PP&L Spectrum and the other PP&L Resources affiliates."
