Lawrence E. De Simone, who has nearly 25 years experience in energy sales and marketing, has been selected to lead PP&L Resources' growing energy marketing and services organizations.
De Simone, who most recently served as senior vice president-Energy Services for Virginia Power Co., will become president of PP&L EnergyPlus Co., which sells retail electricity throughout Pennsylvania, and president of PP&L Spectrum, a company that markets energy services to industrial and commercial customers.
"We have laid an excellent foundation for the marketing of retail electricity and natural gas and for delivery of energy services to customers," said Frank Long, PP&L Resources executive vice president.
"The addition of Larry De Simone to the PP&L team will enable us to build on this foundation to enhance our position as a major energy sales and services company in the mid-Atlantic region.
"Larry's extensive experience in both the electricity and natural gas businesses make him an excellent choice to lead our already strong marketing organizations," said Long.
Prior to his tenure at Virginia Power, De Simone served as president of Central & South West Corp.'s energy services and telecommunications operations and as the company's vice president for strategic planning.
Earlier in his career, he was a partner at Scott, Madden and Associates, an Atlanta-based utilities consulting firm, and a senior vice president with Energy Management Associates, an Atlanta computer software company that developed programs for utilities.
De Simone also served as manager of strategic planning for San Diego Gas & Electric Co. and as supervisor of energy economic research for Pacific Gas & Electric Co.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Claremont McKenna College in California and a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley.
"Through Larry's leadership of both PP&L EnergyPlus and PP&L Spectrum, we will continue our efforts to provide a full range of energy services to customers, particularly industrial and commercial customers. Through these two companies, combined with the capabilities of other PP&L Resources subsidiaries, we can offer business customers services ranging from the procurement of energy, to on-site energy management to construction of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems," said Long.
