PP&L, Inc. will help the Lehigh Valley get into the holiday spirit Thursday (11/19) when it lights up window decorations in its downtown Allentown headquarters building.
The decorations will be turned on during a lighting ceremony sponsored by the Allentown Downtown Improvement District Authority. The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. at Center Square, two blocks from the PP&L, Inc. building.
PP&L, Inc.'s annual display features a tree design on the east side of the building and a candle design on the west side. The company uses a combination of colored fluorescent tubes and window shades to create the designs. Both the tree and candle are 12 stories tall.
"The decorations are a holiday tradition in the Lehigh Valley," said Kathryn Frazier, PP&L, Inc. community development director. "As a company with its roots firmly planted in the region, we're pleased to contribute to its sense of identity and holiday spirit."
Frazier will participate in the lighting of the PP&L, Inc. tower and the city of Allentown's holiday tree along with Allentown Mayor William L. Heydt and national gymnastics champion Kristen Maloney.
The 23-story PP&L, Inc. building has been a Lehigh Valley landmark since 1928. The holiday display first appeared in the 1950s and continued until the early 1970s, when the practice was suspended because of the energy crisis. PP&L, Inc. resumed the display in 1990, using energy-efficient lighting.
The holiday display can be seen each night through Jan. 8.
