Delaware Valley Energy Consortium Members Could Save $7 Million Over PECO Energy Rates; Taxpayers Will Benefit
With an endorsement from another large energy-purchasing group, PP&L EnergyPlus is bringing lower energy costs to school districts, private schools and municipalities in the Philadelphia area.
The Delaware Valley Energy Consortium — which represents 74 public school districts, 43 private schools, 22 municipalities, eight vocational-technical schools and four intermediate units on energy-purchasing matters — has endorsed PP&L EnergyPlus as the preferred electricity supplier for its members in the Pennsylvania Electric Choice Program.
Consortium members could save as much as $7 million in energy costs, compared with the prices they currently pay PECO Energy Co. That makes the taxpayers of member school districts and municipalities in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Bucks counties winners as well, said John F. Cotter, senior vice president-Marketing for PP&L EnergyPlus.
"PP&L EnergyPlus is adding to its reputation in Pennsylvania's new, competitive electricity supply market," Cotter said. "Customers across the state are choosing us based on price, quality of service and our ability to tailor a plan that meets their specific energy needs."
The Delaware Valley Energy Consortium is the fourth organization in recent weeks to select PP&L EnergyPlus as the preferred electricity supplier for its members.
It joins the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Energy Consortium and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry in choosing PP&L EnergyPlus.
"PP&L EnergyPlus is a sound company with whom we feel comfortable. It has offered very competitive, fixed pricing to our members," said Paul Zeigler, legal counsel for the Delaware Valley Energy Consortium.
The group invited all qualified electricity suppliers in the state to submit requests for proposals. After evaluating the proposals, the consortium selected PP&L EnergyPlus from among the 14 suppliers that responded.
PP&L EnergyPlus is part of the PP&L Resources, Inc., family of companies.
