An organization representing more than 80 Pennsylvania colleges and universities has chosen PP&L EnergyPlus as the preferred electricity supplier for its members in the eastern region of the state.
"We reviewed a number of proposals and determined that PP&L EnergyPlus had the best proposal of those we received for our eastern Pennsylvania members," said Timothy Alexander, director of finance and administration for the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania.
"We're pleased to be working with a company like PP&L EnergyPlus, which has the depth necessary to provide our members with credible electric generation service in an uncertain marketplace," he added.
This announcement adds to the growing list of organizations selecting PP&L EnergyPlus as a preferred competitive energy supplier.
"PP&L EnergyPlus is becoming the premier supplier in Pennsylvania's newly competitive electricity market by understanding customers and tailoring a package of electricity and energy services to meet their specific needs," said John F. Cotter, senior vice president-Marketing for PP&L EnergyPlus.
Last week, the largest energy-purchasing group in Pennsylvania selected PP&L EnergyPlus as the preferred supplier for its members, which include nearly half of the state's school districts and more than 20 municipalities.
Members of the Pennsylvania Energy Consortium could save as much as $11 million on their electric bills. As part of the agreement, PP&L EnergyPlus will establish an education fund — with an estimated 1999 contribution of nearly $100,000 — for member school districts that purchase electric generation supply from the company.
Previously, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry selected PP&L EnergyPlus as the preferred supplier for its 5,800 members statewide. That agreement provides businesses with a price guarantee and an annual rebate on their electric bill.
Members of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in eastern Pennsylvania will be offered a fixed price for electricity that will not increase over the two-year term of the contract. The association represents more than 40 institutions of higher learning in the region.
"One significant advantage to the PP&L EnergyPlus proposal is that it does not contain any of the maximum, minimum or load-related charges that can be found in quotes by other companies," Alexander said. "PP&L EnergyPlus has simplified price comparisons in a marketplace that seems determined to make price a confusing topic."
As an additional benefit, PP&L EnergyPlus has volunteered to perform a detailed energy audit and feasibility study for one member school at no cost. Study results will be shared with other members that select PP&L EnergyPlus as their electricity supplier. It will serve as a starting point to identify ways they can better manage their energy use.
"We welcome independent colleges and universities to PP&L EnergyPlus," Cotter said. "I'm sure these institutions will find what many other commercial, industrial and institutional electricity users already know, that PP&L EnergyPlus is the best value for their energy needs."
PP&L EnergyPlus is part of the PP&L Resources, Inc., family of companies.
