Ephrata High Is Tops Among 21 Teams in Electric Go-Cart Competition

A team from Ephrata High School powered its way past 20 other teams from Pennsylvania high schools and technical schools to capture the overall winner's trophy in the fifth annual electric go-cart competition.

PP&L, Inc., and GPU Energy are primary sponsors of the event, with support from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Carlisle Productions, and the Appalachian Sports Car Club, which provided electronic timing for the acceleration and endurance runs. The competition was held Saturday, May 16, at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Cumberland County.

Ephrata also won the first-place trophy in the safety, quality and design category and in the endurance category. Other first-place winners were Milton Area High in the oral presentation category and Donegal High in the acceleration category. Harrisburg-William Penn Campus drove off with three trophies — a second in safety, quality and design; a second in endurance; and a third in acceleration.

Other trophy-winning teams were Northern Tier, a second in acceleration and a third in endurance; Wallenpaupack Area High, a second in the oral presentation; Warren County Career Center, a third in safety, quality and design; and Greater Johnstown Career Center, a third in the oral presentation. In addition to the schools that received trophies, each participating school received a plaque.
