Operators at the Susquehanna nuclear plant manually shut down Unit 2 Monday (6/22) to repair a small leak in a steam condensing system on the non-nuclear side of the plant.
While the unit is shut down, plant personnel also will do other maintenance items that can be performed only when the unit is out of service, said Herbert D. Woodeshick, PP&L, Inc.'s special assistant to the president for Susquehanna.
The leak occurred at a weld on an instrument line in the system on the non-nuclear side of the plant that condenses steam from the unit's turbine generator into water. The water then is filtered and returned for reuse.
Unit 1 at the Susquehanna plant continues to produce power at 100 percent capacity.
The Susquehanna plant, jointly owned by PP&L, Inc. and Allegheny Electric Cooperative, Inc., is located about five miles northeast of Berwick along Route 11.
